Hi, I’m Ellen, an illustrator and qualified medical artist. I combine my scientific background with a colourful, bold and playful style to illustrate the human body, science and the natural world.

After completing a BA in Fine Art, I studied and then worked in science and medical research, receiving a PhD from King’s College London in 2015. Recently, I completed post-graduate training in Medical Illustration, and became a professional member of the Medical Artists’ Association (MAA).

My interdisciplinary background is reflected in my creative process. Inspired by biology and the natural world, my work is fact-based, meticulously researched, and scientifically accurate if needs be. However, I love exploring how to illustrate these subjects in non-traditional, inventive, and sometimes humorous ways. 

I grew up surrounded by the rolling hills of the Peak District, and now live and work by the sea in Hastings, on the south coast of England.
